Marquette University Expands Proactive Study Abroad Emergency Preparation with AlertTraveler Mobile App from Terra Dotta

Terra Dotta Study Abroad Software Helps Marquette University Manage Student Enrollment Across 80 Active International Programs in 42 Countries

Chapel Hill, N.C., April 4, 2018 – As the higher education community continues to expand duty of care initiatives for study abroad programs, Terra Dotta, the leader in higher education travel, study abroad and international program management solutions, today announced that Marquette University is using its AlertTraveler mobile app in addition to its Study Abroad solution.

Using Terra Dotta to help manage study abroad programs across 80 active international programs in 42 countries, Marquette recognized the need for a deeper way to stay connected with students and faculty while they are abroad. The university’s Office of International Education deployed Terra Dotta’s AlertTraveler in order to be able to send students and faculty real-time travel alerts pertaining to critical in-country incidents (i.e., violence natural disaster, health outbreak, airline strikes, etc.), provide a reliable mobile check-in button to ensure safety, and offer tailored quick-dial emergency contact information available 24/7 on travelers’ mobile devices.

“We send over 700 students abroad each year and are committed to maintaining a high level of safety communication with them to ensure immediate and relevant resources are available in real time for all local emergency situations,” said Terence Miller, Director, International Education, Marquette University. “The breadth of helpful, localized, and critical information that AlertTraveler delivers our traveling students in real time makes the app indispensable for our study abroad programs.”

In addition to providing alerts based on study abroad assignments via push notification, email and SMS text messaging, the AlertTraveler app also allows Marquette University’s study abroad team to locate student and faculty travelers via itinerary and GPS data to determine which travelers may be affected by localized incidents. This capability allows the university to communicate possible incidents to travelers who may be on side trips outside of their assigned study abroad locations.

Terra Dotta’s proven cloud-based solutions help higher education institutions automate and streamline all aspects of global collegiate travel and international student programs. They also help higher education teams optimize study abroad and international program enrollment and retention; deliver real-time, GPS-driven travel communication for students and faculty; and ensure compliance and risk mitigation for international travel/scholar programs worldwide.
