Chalk & Wire Supports Cross-Campus Assessment at Millsaps College

Ridgeway, Ontario – June 7, 2016 – Chalk & Wire, the most trusted higher education assessment platform, announced today that Millsaps College, a private liberal arts college located in Jackson, Miss., is now using its assessment platform and ePortfolios across campus to effectively demonstrate student learning outcomes.

Last fall, Millsaps College’s incoming freshmen began uploading assignments to their Chalk & Wire ePortfolios for assessment and feedback. Supporting Millsaps College’s new Compass Curriculum, Chalk & Wire’s flexible platform is now rolled out to each incoming class and will be used by students throughout their tenure at Millsaps.

All Millsaps students are required to complete a writing portfolio as a core and graduation requirement. Students assemble work in the ePortfolio, and then faculty assesses that work to determine student proficiency and to provide feedback that is essential for improvement.

“At Millsaps, we have always had a strong focus on student portfolios, however, it hasn’t always been easy to allocate the time and resources necessary to properly manage and assess them,” said Anita DeRouen, director of writing and teaching for Millsaps College. “Chalk & Wire provides a more efficient way for us to measure student learning outcomes across campus, with very robust reporting options that help us evaluate our various academic programs.”

Millsaps College selected Chalk & Wire because of the company’s efficient, customizable platform, vision, and expertise in using the technology for a variety of instructional and assessment purposes. Chalk & Wire’s history of supporting all users (faculty and students) was also a key factor.

In addition to academic portfolios, students at Millsaps College will be able to use Chalk & Wire to create career-focused ePortfolios to demonstrate their abilities to potential employers.

“We look forward to helping Millsaps College evaluate the effectiveness of their general education curriculum and offering them the tools they need to assess learning so that they can best support student and faculty needs,” said Geoff Irvine, CEO of Chalk & Wire. “Their long-time commitment to developing student portfolios to demonstrate student learning has set them up for a successful experience with ePortfolios.”
